Why start a Blog?
We are a couple of crazy girls that absolutely adore snowboarding. In the Winter of 2021 we decided that we wanted to fill our weeks with more than the local snowboard mountain, we craved adventures in the backcountry and so we purchased splitboards. Being new to splitboarding, we searched the internet for beginner backcountry routes and we were so surprised at the complete lack of detailed accessible routes for beginners. So, we started our own blog to help others who wanted to safely get into backcountry tours as well. When we started the blog, we quickly realized that our love for the outdoors was more than just backcountry mountain adventures, we wanted to write about biking, travel, surfing, paddle boarding, etc. Thus ‘Split Decisions’ was born and our logo, the gravitational pull we experience deciding between adventures in mountains and adventures in water.
Hello, my name is Jay.
I grew up in California on the Central Coast. You would think I would be an Ocean baby but actually playing on lakes was my favorite thing as a child. My family loved Water Skiing and my summers were spent on innertubes, wakeboards, and of course water skis. Once a year we would do a family trip somewhere in the winter to snow ski. When I was 12, I tried snowboarding for the first time and never looked back. I was in love. Unfortunately, we lived 5 hours from the closest ski mountain.
Fast forward 20+ years… I moved to Bend, Oregon and I finally got to hone my skills snowboarding on the beautiful Mt. Bachelor. Bend is the perfect place where water and mountains meet. I am finally in my happy place. I have lakes and rivers for water skiing and wake surfing and mountains for mountain biking and snowboarding. Join us for our adventures! I am pretty petite at 5’1″ and 105lbs. Every adventure feels like a “tall order” for me. I am happy to help my fellow vertically challenged people out there find great gear so they feel confident in any outdoor endeavor.
Hey, I’m Tyese!
I grew up in Pennsylvania and always loved sports and outdoor adventures. I learned to ski when I was 5, and switched to snowboarding when I was 12. As a grade schooler, I begged to be put in surf lessons and be taken to climbing gyms, and my love for adventure sports grew and grew. When I was 21, I did a road trip with a friend to Bend, Oregon, and ended up moving there as it filled my childhood dream of snowboarding and wakeboarding all in one day. The climbing, mountain biking, snowboarding, hiking, and endless lakes were absolutely beautiful and I couldn’t get enough of them! I looked at every volcano as my next challenge, and quickly summited many of them. Standing atop a high peak taking in the views never got old!
I later moved to Thailand for about 8 years and explored that side of the world, surfing (not well) in many different countries, trekking in Nepal, touring through all of Eastern Asia, and snowboarding in Japan. Being recently back and taking on splitboarding has been a whirlwind of fun that I feel is just the start of adventures to come, and I can’t wait to help others get started on their own adventure as well!
