Year Model: 2022
Size: 151 cm
My Height & Weight: 5’7” & 130lb
Bindings used: Union Explorer Splitboard Bindings
Camber: Early rise in nose, micro camber underfoot, flat in middle
Shape: Directional
Flex: I’d give it an 8/10
Carving: I’d say overall the Pallas Epiphany is fun to carve on. You have to muscle through it a little bit, it’s not just out to make sharp turns, but if you ride it aggressively it carves hard. It loves the big swooping carves.
Stability: The Epiphany is extremely stable! This board charges through anything, even crunchy old snow in the backcountry. It’s very solid and feels stable edge to edge.
Ollies/Pop: Being that it’s on the stiffer side, the Pallas Epiphany is not the best board I’ve ridden for ollies and jumps, but it does have good pop if you muscle it.
Trees: It is very solid and responsive in the trees. It is not the quickest turning board in tight trees, but it definitely holds its own.
Powder: The Epiphany is epic in powder! The fatter nose and natural nose lift makes it float out of the powder, and it loves carving through creamy pow!
Butterability: It is not the greatest for butters. The Pallas Epiphany is a stiff freeride board, so that’s not really its jam.
Where it shines: This board really stands out carving big turns in powder and plowing through less than ideal conditions. It’s so fun in powder! Plus I feel really secure and stable on it even when the snow is heavy or tracked out. Also, the Epiphany carves on icy conditions really well. The flat underfoot design even makes it great for traveling uphill. It grips to the snow and feels lightweight as you go up.
Who would love it: An aggressive female in the backcountry who loves powder or spring touring in less than ideal snow conditions would love the Epiphany. In the PNW we call it volcano season, and this board does fantastic on long days summiting peaks and then cruising down in spring slush or slightly icier chunky conditions.
Personal Thoughts: I am really stoked I got the Pallas Epiphany Splitboard! I’m also really impressed with the textured topsheet design as well. Even after many days in the backcountry, there’s not a single chip on the topsheet unlike the Jones Solution Splitboard and the Season Pass Splitboard. Amazingly, it still looks brand new! The artwork from Pallas is also beautiful and the customer service is amazing. Steph, the owner, is the one who replied to every single email I’ve ever sent with questions. Pallas is a great company to support!
The only problem I have encountered is with the hardware that was used to connect the board. The way the clips connect makes it very hard to get the board back together on a snowy day. Frequently, I find myself pouring hot water on the clips to get the ice and snow to melt enough to connect it. I know they are working on using different hardware in the near future though, so that concern should go away soon.
